Elizabeth Carmichael - AIA  | Principal Architect

As the founding architect of ECOhouse, Elizabeth pays attention to creative sustainability in projects.  With over 20 years experience in residential, retail, entertainment, restaurant and bar design, her practice includes minimal, yet elegant design, with attention to detail and quality craftsmanship, while observing the belief that architecture can have a positive effect on communities, the environment, and how families interact. In addition, she serves on the Board for San Diego Green Building Council.


Ken Carmichael  |  CEO

CEO and Director of Operations, as well as Elizabeth’s spouse and co-founder of ECOhouse,  Ken provides operational support for all projects including site investigation and review, discretionary, ministerial, and permit processing and is a Certified Discretionary Completeness Professional with City of San Diego Development Services. Ken has developed a strong relationship with both city and county agencies through his expertise as a liaison.

Rebecca   |  Senior Project  Manager

As our Senior Project Manager, Rebecca brings over a decade of diverse experience in Architecture and Construction to the team. She holds a Bachelor of Architecture with a minor in Environmental Psychology. She also studied Scandinavian Furniture Design and Fabrication at The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, School of Design and Masters in Construction Management from Ashworth University. She is also a Licensed Realtor with several years of experience in the Real Estate Development.

Nicolai   |  Job Captain

Nicolai joined the ECOhouse family in July of 2019 and has since been helping Liz and the rest of the team with a number of projects. He has a broad area of interests in the design field, graduating from Newschool of Architecture of Design with a thesis focusing on Neuroscience of Architecture and a minor in Construction Management. Due to his father being in the wind power industry, he was raised with the concept of sustainability as a core value from an early age.

Arkar - Assoc AIA  |  Job Captain 

Arkar has been one of our important members since he joined the Ecohouse family in September 2019. He has studied and practiced architecture in Spain, Japan, Portugal, Myanmar and United States and holds Master’s of Architecture from NewSchool of Architecture, specialized in Healthy Urbanism and Bachelor of Architecture from Thanlyin Technological University, Myanmar.


JoAnn, currently established as the Director of Education and Marketing at EcoHouse, has been an important member here at EcoHouse for several years. She has focused on setting new initiatives in sustainability education and certification specifically for the local communities and AIA continuing education and has significant experience with curriculum/training implementation and instructional design and technology integration.
